Random thought of the (Mon)day: Post Office

kimchi robot

Every time we go to the post office and they ask us if our kimchi shipments contain “anything that is liquid, fragile, perishable or potentially hazardous” I have to smile for two reasons. 1) Answer to the first three is most definitely a yes, and I’d say kimchi is potentially hazardous too due to the pressure buildup inside the jars… and the sheer stink of it. 2) Man, did we pick the worst product to make a mail order business out of or what? Then again, maybe it’s for the best because we certainly stand out in a sea of practical companies shipping dry, shelf-stable, unbreakable and safe products to their customers. Hmm, crazy or brilliant? Hard to say.

PS: Just signed off on the dream-come-true guestblogging gig at Boing Boing and we will be returning to our regular programming here on the Kimchimonger Newsblog.

Photo of the Day: Kimchi Mandoo Bento Box

We think this bento box with kimchi/tofu mandoo (potstickers) is too stinkin’ cute. If a button-nosed apple face lunch container stuffed with nutritious snacks doesn’t bring a smile to your face, what will?

Granny Choe’s in Audrey magazine

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Check out the latest issue of Audrey magazine and you will find great feature on second generation Koreans’ food business ventures, featuring an interview with Mama Choe. Perhaps even more importantly, you will find a fan-freakin-tastic image of Granny Choe’s original / cabbage kimchi. Two words: Money. Shot.

No, but seriously, we’re calling it the money shot because there are gigantic dollar signs behind the kimchi jar.

Stinky Stuff Art Contest: Now Closed

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

thanks

Thank you to all who entered Granny Choe’s First Annual Stinky Stuff Art Contest! The contest is now closed. We’ll be reviewing the submissions shortly and will let you know who the incredibly lucky winner of a year’s worth of free Granny Choe’s kimchi is soon! If you missed the deadline this year, no worries, there will probably/maybe be a Second Annual contest… depending entirely upon our mood (based on the alignment of the planets) one year from now.
